Alumni adopted in 2015

Clove and Nutmeg (formerly Cinnamon and Caramel)

They spend their time watching our deck for their friends that include turkeys, deer, rabbits, many squirrels and of course birds. It  provides endless entertainment. Nutmeg enjoys a lap (and “Catch Games” on the iPad!) and Clove will occasionally get in on the action.  Clove runs the show as she loves to let Nutmeg know who is in charge. We are so thankful for the joy they have brought to our lives.

Weebles

Sometimes, Feline Rescue receives a cat that has special needs. The following story has a wonderful outcome when Weebles, who has a neurological and muscular condition named ‘cerebellar hypoplasia’ (Referred to as CH in the story), was adopted by Ann and Chris in St. Paul.)

WeeblesOnBed-1Weebles, our great CH cat, is doing very well.  He is learning his new environment and that we want to take care of him. We are sure that he’ll warm up to holding but so far he only wants a little petting and combing. Of  course, all adoptees need time and Weebles’ CH and what he went through as a stray, could take extra but we love him whether he likes it or not.

His brother, Rodney, a rescue we adopted in 2014 from another shelter, is doing OK with the new cat. A couple of scuffles here and there since Weebles’ blank stare and CH wobble can sometimes freak Rodney out. Plus Weebs is easy to startle for no reason whatsoever. But, it’s all working and Weebs can actually jump onto the bed using our cedar chest and can get onto his window perch in the den using a couch to step up.

WeebRamp-1

We have a ramp to the living room couch and he’s able to get to the WeebsSnowingback of the couch to look out the window, so he learns and is exploring his limits. Weebs has surprised us already. He made it to the top of the couch again, using his unique way of walking. He’s not letting CH keep him down. We’re so glad to have Weebles!

Thanks, Ann and Chris

Loki (formerly Alfie)

We adopted Loki (previously Alfie) from Feline Rescue October 2014 four days before my birthday. We had two cats already, but Scout needed a play buddy as Lu is an aging queen of the castle and prefers solitude (although she groomed Loki once).

Loki is the most social cat I’ve ever met. He and his big brother are best buds wrestling and grooming one another. As Loki has grown, he has shown some purrrsonality. He always greets us with a  stretch, loves to play, sit in boxes, and has a distinct Mohawk along his back.  His part Siamese features have become darker as he’s grown into the beautiful trickster he is. We couldn’t imagine life without him, and can’t wait to adopt from you guys in the future!

Pumpkin (formerly Tawret)

I am writing to thank you for bringing Pumpkin into my life. I adopted you from her on May 23 last year and she has brought so much joy to me over the last few months. She doesn’t look anything like a Pumpkin, but I called her that so much she thought it was her name, so it just stuck.

She still likes to drink from the faucets. Every time I go to a sink she rushes over and sticks her head under the water. During the warmer months, her favorite thing to do is watch the chickens in the yard next door. She is gloriously independent, curious about everything, a very picky eater, and she likes to play by stalking and grabbing my pant leg. She is most adorable when she lays on the rug on her back and curls her paws over like a squirrel.

She loves having her cheeks rubbed. In the morning, she wakes me up by licking my fingers. I’m not sure if she is actually showing affection or if she is letting me know that if I don’t feed her she will be forced to eat my fingers instead. She has trained me not to leave full glasses of water around, because she will push them off the edge of the table. The vet gave her a stuffed pumpkin, and she likes to hold it and kick it with her back legs. Thank you again!

Poe (formerly Little Buddy)

We adopted Little Buddy (now Po’Boy or Poe for short) about a month ago. He has settled in nicely with his brother Cedric.

Kili and Fili (formerly Izzy and Ozzy

IzzieOzzie4I adopted brothers Izzie and Ozzie, who I renamed Kili and Fili [in August]. After spending the first 24 hours in their new home hiding under a hope chest, the brothers quickly adapted to having the run of the house. Now they spend their days playing and watching TV in front of the fireplace or on my lap.

Izzie&Ozzie3

They are still shy with strangers but are big cuddle bugs on their own time. I am so happy to have them in my life!

Beatris (formerly Taormina)

Bea2Beatris Taormina here. I was called Taormina, which is a beautiful mysterious name, while I was at Feline Rescue. But six weeks ago I moved to a new forever home and my new human poppa is unable to say Taormina. He comes out with words like “terminal” which I do not think funny. So we agreed that I would be called Beatris, Bea for short. It means ‘blessed’ which is very appropriate because I was living outdoors then was found and brought to Feline Rescue by kind people. Now I have a home of my own.

Well, almost of my own. In addition to the two humans there are some dogs and another cat. The dogs do not go in my part of the house. They are snuffly and noisy and not serene, but I do not dislike them. They are where they are. The other cat, whose name is Isobel, I am not so sure about. She is older and she seems territorial about the Large Soft Area where she sleeps most of the time. So I have a smaller Soft Area to sleep on. I also have numerous windowsills to sit in the sun and watch the birds. Lots of birds out there. They would be good to eat, but I am an indoor cat now. I have a purple collar that complements my calico coat.

Bea

I saw a man called Dr W last week, who said I was a bit fat. I was insulted and bit him on the arm. He did mention how beautiful my calico coat is, which is good that he recognized my superiority. He poked me and I felt a bit sick from the shot but now I am all right.

My people have made me a scratching post. It is lovely. It’s behind my favorite chair. My female human has gone outside and found catnip for me, which smells so nice.

Bea3

The food at this house is remarkably good. The female human, who seems to be some sort of servant, is up at 5:30 and brings me a dish of canned food. This is acceptable. She tidies up and cleans the litterboxes (there are five) every day, and washes the dishes and sweeps and so on. Then she is gone during the day and the male human amuses me. The servant also brings me chow in the evening. The chow is excellent, including the kind I had before but also some other kinds. It is mixed, so I pick out the kind I like best first then eat the rest later. I also eat the breakfast of the male human. This morning I had croissants that I took off the table. Usually the male human and I have bacon and eggs, then work on the computer. I am very good at the computer although the keyboard is not as nice a place to sit as the lap.

The female human seems obsessive about brushing me and the Other Cat. She does so every day, and I am getting used to it. She also knows how to use the laser and the cat dancer, and will work very hard to amuse me. This is good. I like this house.

Lily

Lily5

This is the best cat anyone could ask for. Never a problem, very loving, so happy to have her in my home!

Max and Sam (formerly Jimmy and Johnny)

Hey There! This is Max (the cat formerly known as Jimmy), writing in for myself and my “brother” Sam (Johnny). Wanted you to get an update of how we are doing!

Jimmy&JohnnyWell, it’s been 8 months, and we are SLOWLY getting used to living outside the busy, noisy shelter! We came to this quiet house in the woods VERY shy, and took quite a while to get the gist that our humans were friendly! Even now, while we enjoy being in the same room with our people, we don’t particularly enjoy being touched. Sometimes, when we are especially mellow, we’ll allow a brushing with a long-handled brush. But, if you get TOO close to us, we take off running (still)!

For two cats who supposedly were quiet, I am especially fond of walking around the house carrying my favorite mouse toy while howling at the top of my lungs. Sam likes to sit in the back window and “chirp” at the birds and bunnies! Between the two of us, we create quite a racket!

We are still the best of buddies, and are frequently found on the ottoman in the sunshine. We like to watch people walk by, and race up and down the stairs each morning until we are fed. Maybe, someday, we will allow our people to pet us!

That is all for now – there are squirrels and bunnies outside the window!

Grayson and Otis (formerly Mickey)

Grayson&OtisGrayson and Mickey (now Otis) have graduated to the middle floor of our house — and love being by the open windows. …

The boys are adjusting well and are so loving with one another. Grayson seeks out Otis when he is meowing and leads him back to their safe space. They give each other snuggles and kisses — and they love playing with the laser mouse and other toys with us humans.

They continue to do great, exploring the house, playing with our kids and wrestling with/chasing each other — they are two peas in a pod!

Harvey (formerly Sebastian Richard)

Harvey3Harvey2We adopted Harvey last winter. (His name was Sebastian Richard.) He has changed our lives in so many lovely ways. The first day he arrived, he did not come out from under the bed for a couple hours. I laid a trail of treats towards my hand. Eventually he slowly popped out from underneath. It did not take long for him to become acclimated. Harvey is a total chow hound. He is fed mindfully, but has a talent for sneaking food right before your eyes. Big stuff, like a huge slab of steak or a large bag of rice. He tries, though it’s a game he never wins. He is like a baby lion. Very strong.

Harvey acts more like a dog sometimes. He comes when he is called, snuggles on laps and loves to be around people. Harv’ has a very quiet meow. He is not a loud bossy cat. He has favorite spots in various windows watching birds flutter, chipmunks that tease him and the children next door. We swear when the camera points in his direction, he strikes a pose like he’s a movie star cat. His great character makes us laugh. His love for our laps warms out hearts. Harvey is also VERY persnickety, insisting on an impeccable litter box at all times!

Mr. Harvey has been a great asset to our household and we love him so much! We are looking forward to having many happy years with Harvey and feel very grateful for his presence. Thank you for the wonderful care he received at the Feline Center. You guys do a great job!

Asiago

Thought youAsiago2 might enjoy seeing how comfortable [Asiago] is at her new home. She is such a loving cat! She does well with the puppies but really prefers to cuddle up on our laps, purring, and napping.

Asiago4[She also] loves her new perch. She has pretty much become queen of the house!

Yorick (formerly Signor Paolo)

Paolo2Yorick came to live with me on April Fools Day.  Within 24 hours, he was getting along splendidly with his new friend Dogberry. They are nearly identical, so it is truly entertaining to watch them play and chill together.

PaoloYorick spends a lot of his time lounging in my bed or on the couch.  He also enjoys watching the goings on out the windows of the apartment.  Yorick is very affectionate with everyone he meets and I couldn’t be happier to have him as part of or little family!

James Dean

James Dean & Tonka (2)James DeanJames Dean & TonkaTonka and James Dean

James Dean is one of the most energetic, friendly, and playful kittens I have ever known!  I think Tonka couldn’t help himself after seeing James Dean play with every single cat toy in our house!  He had to have a part in the fun, too.  They play together, wrestle together, eat together, and usually sleep near each other if not with each other.  Tonka tries to groom James Dean if he’ll sit still long enough!  Tonka definitely has a new pep in his step.

As for James Dean, he is completely fearless of everything.  He stands in the way of our vacuum, jumps into the shower with our boys, and bats at the water as the washing machine is filling.  This kitty is one of a kind!  He prefers to sleep with my husband or I, nestled in our necks, but will curl up with Tonka, as well.  He loves the boys and will chase them around the house for hours.

Thank you for all your help in finding a new companion for Tonka and our family.  We are so appreciative of everything that Feline Rescue has done for us and our kitties.

Ginger (formerly Jeannette)

Ginger

[A]t her new house [Jeannette, now Ginger] spent an hour investigating everything, high and low, and immediately made herself at home. … She likes to sleep stretched out across us.

Ginger2

Ginger3

… We have bird feeders in front of our windows and the birds and squirrels that visit them keep Ginger entertained, along with the fish from our pond that are wintering over here in the house.  We don’t need a water bowl next to her food because she drinks from the fish bowl!

The laser pointer has been the best purchase we ever made, and is by far her favorite toy.  It’s always on our table, and she can hear it being picked up from where ever she happens to be in the house.  She has a blast chasing it around.

We are all so glad that [Ginger] waited at the shelter for us to adopt her, she is a joy to us all and I can’t imagine being without her.

Filbert & Hazelnut

Filbert and Hazelnut are wonderful cats. They enjoy looking out the window; they both run to their perches in the morning when they hear the blinds being opened. Even though she does the “crazy kitty”, bolting around the house and scurrying up her cat tree nearly every evening, Hazel is more reserved than Filbert. He, in contrast, is very social and likes to walk around meowing at anyone who will respond. They both enjoy scratching their posts, and they use their claws to toss tennis balls in the air. Neither kitty scratches anything other than their posts. Mostly, they enjoy each others’ company. Thankfully, they were adopted together.

Crumbles

I adopted Crumbles on July 1, 2015. She is doing very well. She is very talkative, loves running up and down stairs to get rid of extra energy, and loves staring out the windows as birds, chipmunks, and squirrels. She places her toy mice on my bed when I am away, and enjoys cuddling when I’m not. While she doesn’t always enjoy being petted, she does enjoy meeting any new people who come to visit.

Since then, she moved with me to New Hampshire for a few years and then back to Minnesota. She loves stairs, windows and running from one end of the house to the other as fast as she can at 11:00 pm.

Thea (formerly Queen)

We adopted Thea (formerly Queen) in December 2015. She’s not much of a cuddler, but she is so sweet and polite, and we’ve even taught her to give a high five for a treat 😊. She spends most of her time these days napping on any number of the comfy surfaces in the house, demanding more food in her bowl, and being tormented by her new little cat sister, Stella.

Kia

We adopted Kia in February 2015. We were told that she was very shy and had been at Feline Rescue for about 2 years. She is still wary of being picked up, but she loves snuggling next to us and follows us from room to room to be near us. She’ll even tap me lightly on the arm if she is next to me and wants to be petted. She likes soft toy mice and brings them to us in the middle of the night, meowing and looking for someone to play with her. We’re so happy we found her at Feline Rescue and could give her the Forever Home she deserves. We feel like she was waiting just for us.

Adelaide

I adopted Adelaide in February 2015! In 2021, she moved to DC with me, where she’s kept up her favorite hobbies of snuggling, chasing my yarn, complaining at birds and trying to get into the butter dish.

Nala and Zola (formerly Cici and Duma)

This is Nala (Cici) and Zola (Duma) adopted in 2015. Despite being from different litters and foster homes, these two are so bonded you would think they’ve been together since birth. They are the absolute loves of our lives 💜❤️

Lyen (formerly Kelly)

I adopted “Kelly” back on 9/3/15. This tomcat was 6-8 months old back then. I renamed him Lyen in honor of Cecil the Lion who died during the days I adopted kitty. So, am figuring Lyen is using Kelly as his last name, his birthday around middle of March. So I have an Irish cat! I put his birthday as March 17. Had him tested: 80%Tabby; & 20% Maine Coon. So he’s a big boy!! About 14 pounds. Am going to try to get him to walk on a harness+leash. I live in an apartment building so he likes everyone on my floor. Am grateful I’ve registered him as ESA Cat. Because I don’t know what would have happened to me during these Covid stuck @ home days.  He’s well taken care of: lots of toys, drinks fast dripping water out of the bathtub faucet. Hates fountains & containers of water. But yes…he knows how to handle mice! His jaws are so strong; he squeezes them to death, then I use a grabber & toss.

-Tammi D

Dani and Finn (formerly Marshmellow and Fluff)

I fell in love with them looking at their photos at the Feline Rescue web page. They looked so sad in the adoption picture (center.) They were picked up by Animal Control in St Paul when they were just tiny kittens. Feline Rescue saved them and got them into foster care.  We visited them in foster care and my husband agreed that we could adopt them.  Our last cat from Generation 2 of our cat children had died only a week before after living with us for 20 years.  Dani and Finn grew into very large cats; Finn weighs 18 lbs and is not fat.  They are great companions and are intelligent.  They love to be cuddled and pet.  The are really polite and calm unlike some of our previous cats.

-Patricia

Tator (formerly Tatortot)

This is Tator previously Tatertot.  He doesn’t believe in personal space. He is an affectionate lap cat. He has been a gateway cat for many people who said they didn’t like cats and now they have a cat. He has been a great office assistant since working from home.

-Melissa R

Loki (formerly Alfie)

Loki has been living his best life since we adopted him as a kitten just over 8 years ago!

He loves naps with his “brother” Scout – they groom one another during the day and play fight every evening. His favorite spot is my husband’s lap and chest. Loki occasionally will paw and play a bit with both dogs as well. Sometimes they will nap together. His favorite is watching the birds from the window in the summer and following the sun spots during the day. He has caught one mouse!

We welcomed a baby a year ago, and though he was a bit leery at first he has warmed up to his new buddy so long as he is gentle! He keeps coming back over the baby gate – so far so good. We look forward to many more years with our big fur baby.
