The story doesn’t end when a cat leaves our care. Cat Tales highlights the lives changed through rescue—cats finding homes, families finding companions, and communities coming together to help cats in need. These stories remind us why our work matters and how every cat, no matter their journey, deserves the chance to thrive.
A Homecoming Nearly Nine Years in the Making
One Friday evening, Feline Rescue received an unexpected call from a local emergency veterinary clinic. A severely injured cat had been brought in, and her microchip traced back to us. That cat was Piper, who had been adopted from Feline Rescue in 2017! We immediately agreed to take her into our care so she could receive the emergency treatment she needed. When we contacted her original adopter, he was stunned. Piper had escaped shortly after her adoption, and despite his best efforts, he had never been able to find her. Eight years later, she had finally resurfaced! Piper underwent orthopedic surgery and spent her recovery in a loving foster home, where she received the care she needed to heal. Once she was healthy enough, her original adopter was thrilled to welcome her home. After nearly nine years apart, Piper’s incredible journey had brought her right back to the person who had never forgotten her.
Goblin’s journey to her forever home was anything but ordinary! She arrived at Feline Rescue after being found abandoned with burns on her neck. Despite her injuries, she greeted the emergency veterinary team with head boops and gentle purrs. But once she returned to our shelter, a frightened Goblin quickly lived up to her name, turning an exam room upside down and outsmarting our attempts to help her. With patience, creativity, and plenty of teamwork, our staff found ways to help Goblin feel safe while she recovered. As her confidence grew, her affectionate personality emerged. Soon, the same cat who had been avoiding everyone was happily attending staff meetings from the comfort of someone’s lap! Goblin eventually traded her duties as Feline Rescue’s unofficial office supervisor for a life of luxury in her forever home, where she can enjoy all the attention and comfort she deserves.
In Loving Memory
Fairfield, affectionately renamed Madoc, was adopted from Feline Rescue in 2017 and spent seven wonderful years with his family before passing away in October 2024. Although he spent his first night hiding under the bed, by the next evening he was curled up beside his adopter’s pillow, and he never stopped seeking affection. Madoc loved making biscuits in laps, grooming his person’s hair, announcing his arrival with enthusiastic meows, and soaking up the sunshine. He was a constant companion through major life changes, including a cross-country move, graduate school, and the pandemic. His sweet personality even inspired other family members to adopt rescue cats, including another Feline Rescue alumnus! Madoc’s family remembers him as the sweetest boy, and although he is deeply missed, the love he brought into their lives continues through the other cats who have found homes because of him.
Ichabod Crane is a cat our staff and volunteers will never forget! During his time at Feline Rescue, his challenging behavior kept everyone on their toes, so we’re especially happy to share this update from his family. Ichabod is thriving in his home, where he has become good friends with his feline siblings Alfie and Oscar, while maintaining a more reserved relationship with Whiskers. He especially loves chasing Oscar and, even better, being chased himself! His family reports that he still occasionally bites, but much less frequently and with less intensity. Most importantly, Ichabod is a happy, loved cat whose personality brings his family tremendous joy. We couldn’t be happier that this memorable boy found a family who appreciates him just as he is!
