Our cats wish to offer you a final end-of-2014 opportunity to donate tax-free leftover cash, money, stocks, bonds, and, of course, toys to Feline Rescue. How about some excitement? Feline Rescue is growing, changing, and becoming a lively presence in our community. So far, in 2014, over 500 cats from our shelter and foster programs have found forever homes. Adoptions are up 42% from last year. People have discovered cats, and they love them.
Feline Rescue’s adopting families say:
“He loves to play with his squeaky mouse and carry toys to his food bowl. As soon as you sit down he’s in your lap ready for pets. He’s is sweet and funny. So glad he came into our lives.”
Aberdeen’s Family, Sheri & Donavan
“She began to warm up gradually, and although it took several weeks, she is now quite the social little girl. [Katie] loves to look out the window at the back yard and garden, play with her toy mice, and remain ever vigilant for feeding time. We think she’s great!”
Katie’s Family, fka Crystal, Lora.
Remember Jelly Bean? Here’s his forever life, as reported by Linda, his forever human:
My boys … all have a wonderful home. … Binks, aka Jelly Bean (whose eyes are surgically shut), is doing wonderfully; he is a healthy sleek kitty and weighs about 12 pounds now. He spends his days playing with his brothers and takes many cat-naps. Always looking for toys that make noise for him. He is an excellent mouser.
Feline Rescue’s humans have been busy, too. We hired our first employee ever – Mark Fausner – as our facilities manager to oversee the upgrades, repairs, and construction at both our long-time adoption center and at our new purchase across the street at 600 Fairview Avenue North. Our foster program has begun to use its space in the new building. We are discussing, with the watershed and soil conservation districts, funding for rain gardens to reduce run-off from both properties and improve the landscapes.
Feline Rescue is becoming a community presence, engaging with other neighborhood groups to educate and entertain citizens about cats. We’ve belonged to the Midway Chamber of Commerce for several years. This year, we connected with the Hamline-Midway Coalition, the district council for our area. We worked with the Coalition to host in our parking lot the first Fairview Avenue North Friendly Streets Initiative festival. Rumble, an outreach cat, served as the greeter. Our outreach team worked with the Animal Humane Society’s outreach group in its Frogtown initiative to increase the community cats and cats living with lower-income people that received spay-neuter services. We continue our work with MN SNAP, the mobile spay-neuter team that comes to the adoption center about twice a month.
For those of you who like numbers, our Meow Match for Medical Miracles campaign brought in $44,000, up 32% from last year. Overall donations are up 26% this year. In November, GiveToTheMax day raised $29,833, up from $17,000 last year. Feline Rescue’s income is up – but – so are expenses – 31% more than last year at this time.
Feline Rescue is growing.
We all hope that you want to participate in this excitement by making your year-end tax-deductible donation. The cats hope for $100, $250, $500 or even $1,000 to help them thrive and find their homes. They’ll purr for you! Your support goes directly for good food, warm beds, health care, and lots of toys.
May all cats be warm and safe and loved. We share the warmth of Zane, a current guest, with you this holiday season. He’s available for adoption. Stop in to the adoption center!

In late 2014, I decided to sponsor a shelter cat named Buzz. He isn’t wild about other cats or people, for that matter. Reminded me of my dear departed Maggie, who only liked me. ( R.I.P. 7-5-2012 ). I am beginning to get forgetful, and am in need of assistance in setting up a plan for caring financially for Buzz. Could someone email me at Mary.Matkaiti@gmail.com, or call me at 612-616-5157? To be honest, I’m not sure if I have made any payments yet for his room and board, veterinary care, etc. I would love to visit Buzz. What day and time would work out best for staff and kitty? Yours truly, Mary Jo Matkaiti.
Thank you for sponsoring Buzz. He is a special guy with an amazing rumbling purr. I’ve forwarded your email to the volunteers who manage donations, donations@felinerescue.org. You can certainly stop by our shelter to visit Buzz any time the shelter is open. Directions and hours can be found at https://felinerescue.org/about-us/visit-us/
