Feline Rescue thinks the best way for you to get a feel for the work of the organization and it’s many dedicated volunteers is by letting our adopters (and their cats!) tell their own success stories.
Today we hear from Celayne, a past president of Feline Rescue, who adopted Cleopatra (left), 13 years ago! (Pictured here with James, who was also recently featured in Alumni Corner.)
In late 2001, a family of three older kittens and a momma cat were abandoned in the shelter doorway. Two of the kittens and their momma were adopted fairly quickly, but one, a little black one with a white spot on her chest, who had been christened “Winston” was still in the shelter. Each week when I would go to work my shift, I would check for her and hope that she was gone, because I didn’t need another cat. After about three weeks of this, I gave in and adopted her. What sealed the deal was that when I would stop petting her, she would nip at my hand. Strange way to make friends, by my old black cat had done that and I guess it felt like home.
Cleopatra (that was her real name – she told me so) turned my two sedate adult cats, Big Kitty and Samantha, into fun playmates. The three would chase around my apartment like a furry whirlwind. As much as Cleo loved those two cats, she took an instant dislike to any newcomers. So many years later, she is now the queen of the household and has mellowed enough to tolerate the young ones, as long as they respect her majesty!
