Alumni adopted in 2016

Mara (formerly Ruby)

She was very timid and shy when she first arrived, preferring to hide under our futon or stay on her princess tower whenever possible. She quickly warmed up to this though! Nowadays, she rarely strays away from her humans – she’s always cuddling or playing with us. When it’s mealtime, she needs one of her humans to accompany her. She’ll even try to share her food with us. While we don’t partake in the meal, we reward her for being so thoughtful and kind. At the end of the day, she follows me up to bed and falls asleep between my legs.

Her favorite toys are her baby rainbow unicorn and anything with feathers. She could chase her feather toy for hours! When she needs a break from her humans, she’ll lie by the window and chase birds that fly by. Or she’ll hide under a rug when she wants a quick cat nap. Once it’s dark out, she loves pouncing at the lights that shine through the window. This doesn’t last forever though, as she’ll run back to her humans when it’s time to unwind.

A huge thank you to Feline Rescue for bringing Mara into our lives! She shows us the true meaning of love every day, and we’re blessed to be her cat parents.

Beckett and Marcel (formerly Seaweed and Barnacle)

We adopted Beckett and Marcel (formerly Seaweed and Barnacle) in April 2016. Beckett is grey and Marcel is black.
They were TERRIFIED of everything and were hiding inside of a giant Rubbermaid container when we first met them at Woody’s in Woodbury. 😥 It took them a long time to warm up to us, but now they are happy, healthy, and run the house.
They love hanging out on the screened-in porch in warm weather and sleeping with us at night. They also love being pet and Beckett will sit in my husband’s lap!

Loki (formerly Sprocket)

It’s been almost a year since we adopted Sprocket from you and after a few days, we renamed him Loki after the Norse god of mischief.  It seemed appropriate then – and is even more perfect now.

Loki is a very happy boy and loves to relax and play around the condo (including on our staircase, which is his own supersized kitty condo!). Loki’s favorite toy is a feather flier that he “hunts”, perhaps reminiscent of his time in the wild near Owatonna before you rescued him. Loki also is an ideal lap cat, always cuddling up on the coach or in bed with us.

Thank you for bringing this amazing cat into our lives!  We love him very much.

Ripley (formerly Cloquet)

Ripley is an irreplaceable member of the family and even has a pet dog who is also her best friend.

Ripley 4Ripley 1Ripley 5Ripley 5

They sleep and cuddle together all day and groom each other constantly. Ripley has grown to be very playful and adventurous and is incredibly affectionate. She loves to play and cuddle with her humans although her first choice is usually her big Golden Retriever Ruby.

Thank you to Feline Rescue for bringing us together.

Bella Moon (formerly Penne)

Bella is calico tabby mix with white, gray and reddish-orange coloring. She has a pink nose with gold eyes

Bella 4Bella 5 RevBella 3

Bella gets along great with people. We are really enjoying her. She leaped from a couple feet away into my lap a couple times.

She gets along well with the other cats but the others are not yet comfortable. She establishes her boundaries well, which my cats are not yet used to so they are keeping their distance for now while keeping an eye on Bella.

Fred and George (formerly Coal and Arabian)

These two fluffy boys are easy-going, good-natured sweeties. They are definitely a bonded pair now, and love to hang out near me whenever they’re not playing.

coal arabian 2Cole:arabian

Fred loves to be held and petted, while George loves to play a lot and check in for affection at will.

They love their cat tree from Purrniture, as well as their other toys. George has discovered that all playing is enhanced by being inside the IKEA mesh laundry basket – including chasing Fred. Yes, the basket goes through the house like a tumbleweed, powered by George inside.

Maizie (formerly Tatenda)

One year ago today I adopted Maizie (Formerly Tatenda). She is such a good girl, and is a very happy kitty.

Maze3maizie

Her favorite things are cuddling, purring and kneading, cardboard boxes, and chasing the fishing pole toy.

I’m so grateful to Feline Rescue for bringing her into my life.

Pascha

Pascha is perfectly at home. He settled right in, and both he and Edwyn, our other kitty, were quickly friends. They play chase — and Pascha frisks with the various toys, sits in our laps, and has established a basic routine of commandeering certain prime sleeping areas throughout the day.

pascha1pascha2

He likes to groom, sleeps deeply in heated kitty warming beds, gives cheerful eye contact, plays gently, purrs with a trill, and is intelligent, loving, and a complete joy. He likes to watch the squirrels and birdies outside. He’s pretty accepting of our visitors, but prefers adults to kids.

We’ve had his microchip registered in our name, and Pascha has been to the vet for some dermatitis that cropped up — now abated. All systems are good and healthy.

Blessings and thank you, again.

Newt (formerly Nero) and Nova

Our new “children” have both adjusted wonderfully. Nero, who we have renamed Newt, was so happy to receive the fetch toys. Ever since they came, we have played fetch every day! He loves to get the balls wet before we play with them. He is very vocal about wanting to play. He will chirp at me to play, and loves to play for hours, or at least until he needs to rest a bit on my lap before playing again. He loves cuddle and always finds a way to help me on the computer.

Nero and Nova Adoptednewt-and-nova-6 newt-and-nova-4

Nova has really blossomed in the past few weeks. It started slowly, with her chirping for food and excitedly running, with her tail held high. I heard her purr for the first time after we took a trip with them to my parent’s house for Easter. When we got back, she was so happy to be home, she started walking around me purring. A few days later, I was able to pet her for the first time. She was slow to trust us, but now she can’t get enough petting. She follows me around to maximize ear scratches. Casey was able to pet her for the first time just last night. All of our patience and respecting her shyness has really paid off. I am still holding out hope she will want to be a lap kitty too 🙂

They have been an amazing addition to our family.

Gus Gus (formerly Cappachino)

Time to update everyone about our handsome boy, Gus Gus. He is the perfect addition to our family.

gusgus3gusgus5gusgus4

We love him so incredibly much! He is by far the sweetest boy I have ever laid eyes on.  He LOVES to eat as much wet food as fast as he can, play all the time (especially with our feet!) and he loves to sleep and look out the windows, and try to attack the bunnies living outside.  He gives us daily entertainment with his unique personality.  We couldn’t have asked for a better cat, but mostly a better friend for us.

Cookie Monster (formerly Henry)

We adopted Henry almost a week ago and we couldn’t be happier with him. He loves to snuggle, play and EAT FOOD!

Henry1Henry 3

One of the fun quirks he has is that he always has to be touching you, and if you need to walk around, he has to follow you to make sure you’re okay. It took him a couple of days to adjust to his new environment and not having the other cats around, but he has gotten so comfortable with us and our home.

He loves to play with his feather toys and his laser. He also loves to talk to us; either to say “Hello” when we come home from work, or “Good morning, I’m hungry” at 6 am haha.Henry4

We love him so much and are so happy we can provide him a good home and shower him with lots of love. Maybe down the road, we can get a friend from you guys!

Gilda

Gilda is the biggest and shiniest treasure in my life! She is a tiny, soft, affectionate fur ball who loves to cuddle, talk to me, and follow me around the house. She has a funny internal clock and right around 6 AM everyday she runs around my room meowing and jumping on top of me and rubbing her head on me- but I love her so much it doesn’t even bother me that she wakes me up!

Gilda1Gilda3

Her favorite place besides directly on top of me is in a window or in the bathtub, which always makes me giggle.

She’s in love with our rat Jupiter, and we’re pretty sure the love is mutual! They sit and stare at each other all day, and we’ll even open the cage to see what they do and they continue to remain calm and happy; they just love being in each other’s presence (and they match- so cute!). She often sleeps next to or underneath Jupiter’s cage.

Gilda4

Plus, now she has a matching ginger buddy who loves to hang out with her and torture her with kisses! As you can see, she’s incredibly tolerant of our never-ending cuddles and love. Even when she’s not dying to be held (which, let’s be honest, half the time she is), she lets you do it anyway because her heart is so big and full of love and affection- even when she’s making her angry face.

Gilda has brought so much joy into my life! I can hardly stand to be away from her. The first day I had to go to work and leave her at home, I made my roommate check on her multiple times and give me updates. I imagined all these terrible things happening to her, and of course when I got home she was sitting on my bed waiting for me.

I had a terrible time trying to adopt a cat for the last couple of years. Odd rejections kept occurring, or miscommunication with shelters and landlords, and I was beginning to think I would never have a cat of my own- my biggest dream! But then I walked into Feline Rescue and the volunteer working listened to my description of a perfect cat, and walked me straight over to Gilda. From that point on I was forever grateful for the struggle it was to adopt a cat and for the rejections and confusion, because I ended up with the best cat in the world. Gilda is so beautiful on the inside and out, and my life with her is forever more positive, filled with more love, more care, and more companionship. Thank you for uniting us!

Captain Cheddar (formerly One-Eye Willy)

He is loving his new home! His favorite activities are zooming after feather toys and string, playdates with the neighbor cat named Chella, snoozing on the windowsill, kisses, and helping to write essays by laying down on bellies while his humans type.

CptCheddar 2While his days of piracy are over, he is enjoying a very early retirement and is looking forward to his approximate third birthday. In the meantime, he continues his endeavors to explore every nook and cranny of everything he can!CaptCheddar1

There is always a new object to sniff or swat or sit on, even after two months in his forever home. He can be followed on his Facebook page, Cheddar Novitch.

Thanks again to Feline Rescue!

Basil

IMG_1337IMG_1327IMG_1334After a first few days of feeling a little shy and hiding in my closet, Basil has now fully adapted to his new home.

He now runs around the house freely, enjoys lounging in front of our windows and watching the outside world, plays happily and enjoys snuggling with me in bed while I sleep. He likes my two housemates and follows us around everywhere. Whenever anyone goes to the bathroom he sits in front of the door meowing until we come out.  He loves sitting on my lap while I do homework. He also likes making me take study breaks by sitting on my books! He is a sweet, smart, wonderful cat and I feel very lucky to have him in my life. He has brought lots of joy to me and my housemates.  He also has a long list of admirers at my college and students come over to meet him all the time.

Freddie and Pete (formerly Frito and Pixie)

I adopted  Frito and Pixie from Feline Rescue in early 2016 and renamed them Freddie and Pete.   Pete sadly died in 2019 of a long illness; he was a sweetheart to the end.

Freddie is going strong. He is my cuddle buddy and rarely too far from me. Here he is in his favorite lounging and sleeping position. He loves belly rubs.

Chari (formerly Camelia)

We adopted three cats from you and we love them so much! This is Chari who is a real princess. She has the most elegant way of monitoring everything that happened, and makes every member of the family love and please her. She also talks a lot, using her beautiful voice to let us know she is to be honored and she understands everything humans are talking about. She loves nature and is very talented at climbing trees (both artificial and real ones.)

Suzie

We adopted Suzie from Feline Rescue 6 years ago and she is the queen of our house.

Dexter (formerly Slim Jim)

Dexter is a Feline Rescue alumni from early 2016.  He is best buds with my ginger.

Beaker (formerly Gunnar)

has been the best buddy I could ask for since I adopted him in 2016 from Feline Rescue.  He’s a cuddle monster who will instantly occupy a (usually too small for him) space on your lap as soon as you sit down, and everyone he meets soon finds out what a sweet boy he is.  I’m so grateful to have found him there and to give him his forever home!

Calcifer (formerly Panda)

Calcifer and I have been best friends since I adopted him in 2016. He’s the sweetest boy and the light of my life. Two years ago we adopted him a pandemic baby of his very own. He wasn’t sure about his new sister Lilith at first, but now they are best friends and cuddle (and have chase zoomies) every day.

Scout (formerly Kimberly)

Scout started life as a feral kitten. She was shy but eager to learn that she was a true member of our household.  She is a lap cat, lover of radiators, and a pal to fellow rescue cat Mattie.  We have been so fortunate to have these sweet cats in our life.

Ally (formally Squirrel)

Ally is quite possibly the most spoiled cat in the Twin Cities. She enjoys looking out at the world from her cat trees, window lounger, and stroller. She comes when called even better than her dog sister, especially if there is a treat involved.
