Feline Rescue thinks the best way for you to get a feel for the work of the organization and it’s many dedicated volunteers is by letting our adopters (and their cats!) tell their own success stories.

Today we hear from Lora, who adopted Crystal (now Katie) in June!

Crystal

Crystal (now named Katie) was terribly frightened when we first brought her home and hid for several days, only coming out to eat, drink and use her litter box (thank heavens!).  After a few days we decided to block off all but a couple of hiding spots in our basement, leaving a couple that she could retreat into to feel safe.   We spent a lot of time being “parallel” to her in the same space, but not forcing her to interact.   Eventually, her curiosity got the better of her and she began to emerge to check us (and the array of cat toys) out for short periods.   She began to warm up gradually, and although it took several weeks, she is now quite the social little girl.

[Katie] loves to look out the window at the back yard and garden, play with her toy mice, and remain ever vigilant for feeding time.  She still doesn’t like to be “picked up” but will sit on laps and snuggle in chairs.   We think she’s great!

[Editor’s Note:Katie’s story is similar to Quinton’s, which was posted late last month, and gives us yet another opportunity to extoll the virtues of giving a shyer kitty a chance at a great home.  It may take weeks, as it did for Katie, or even months for some timid kitties to come out of their shell and interact with their new human(s). But it will happen …and the rewards of going through that process will strengthen the amazing bond that develops between you! ]
